The Training and Exercise Specialist will coordinate the development and implementation of a training and exercise program for MDERS stakeholders that focuses on developing response capabilities to critical incidents. Under the direction of the Training and Exercise Program Manager, the incumbent will serve as the conduit between leadership, stakeholders, MDERS staff, and vendors to create an effective training plan for stakeholders and ensure the delivery of the highest quality training. The Training and Exercise Specialist will plan, coordinate, and implement innovative training initiatives for stakeholders that include, but are not limited to traditional in-class instruction, online training, and simulations. The employee will also take a direct role in providing training to stakeholders, especially in public access bleeding control and the incident command system (ICS), and other priorities as identified by the MDERS Steering Committee. The incumbent will also design and execute various discussion and operations-based exercise initiatives.

The Emergency Response Planning Specialist will support internal and external planning initiatives related to emergency response capabilities and operational procedures for planned and unplanned events within Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. The Emergency Response Planning Specialist will partner closely with local stakeholders to establish Capability Development Plans that inform the planning, organization, equipment, training, exercising, and evaluation of response capabilities within the region. Through the development and implementation of these Capability Development Plans, the Emergency Response Specialist will work to achieve the goals and objectives established within the MDERS Strategic Plan.
