Training and Exercise Specialist

The Training and Exercise Specialist will coordinate the development and implementation of a training and exercise program for MDERS stakeholders that focuses on developing response capabilities to critical incidents. Under the direction of the Training and Exercise Program Manager, the incumbent will serve as the conduit between leadership, stakeholders, MDERS staff, and vendors to create an effective training plan for stakeholders and ensure the delivery of the highest quality training. The Training and Exercise Specialist will plan, coordinate, and implement innovative training initiatives for stakeholders that include, but are not limited to, traditional in-class instruction, online training, and simulations. The employee will also take a direct role in providing training to stakeholders, especially in the areas of public access bleeding control and the incident command system (ICS), as well as other priorities as identified by the MDERS Steering Committee. The incumbent will also design and execute various discussion and operations based exercise initiatives.

Administrative Specialist

The Administrative Specialist will assist in supply and equipment orders, inventory tracking, reimbursement processing, routine grant reporting, generation of written and visual products, office maintenance oversight, routine correspondence, and other similar clerical and secretarial duties.

The primary role of this position is to support the travel and reimbursement associated with the training and exercise program. The majority of the incumbent’s work will be in making travel arrangements, working with conference and training vendors, and completing and processing the reimbursement requests from stakeholders. The remainder of the time will be occupied supporting the administrative functions of the ERS staff and stakeholders. This is an administrative position and, as such, does not require an emergency response background.
