SUMMARY:MDERS Emergency Response Meta-leadership Seminar Series: Transformational Connectivity to Foster High Performance (Session Four)
DESCRIPTION:The Maryland-National Capital Region Emergency Response System (MDERS) and the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI) are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the next portion of the MDERS Emergency Response Leadership Seminar Series: Transformational Connectivity to Foster High Performance.  \nThis four-part\, interactive program will explore the transformational benefits of robust connectivity and how to build it. Sessions will take a “deep dive” into designing the relationship with the boss\, building a great team\, and forging productive links across and beyond organizational boundaries. Students will discuss the “silent killers” of connectivity and how to avoid them. The series will conclude with a scenario-based “master class” in which participants will apply the concepts and tools they have learned. \nSession Four: Leading Down: Capstone Exercise: Building Robust Connectivity\nParticipants will utilize the concepts and tools from the first three sessions in a scenario-based exercise. Assuming the role of a recently arrived leader at a department with historical issues dealing with the community\, small groups will develop plans for engaging the boss and subordinates in undertaking a new direction. Other small groups will craft a plan for building trust with external stakeholders for the new initiative. \nDue to space constraints\, this event is by invitation only.

SUMMARY:Emergency Response Leadership Seminar Series - Module One: Meta-Leadership: Complexity & The Arcs of Time
DESCRIPTION:Join the Maryland-National Capital Region Emergency Response System (MDERS) and Harvard University’s National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI) as we explore core leadership principles and skills that are necessary to lead in times of crisis. \nMeta-leadership is using one’s influence\, rather this their authority\, to drive action and change. This technique cultivates leadership at all levels\, and allows one to impact far beyond his or her established span of control. \nThis four-part virtual seminar series will cover essential tools and techniques of Meta-Leadership. The series will focus on three dimensions of Meta-Leadership – the Person\, the Situation\, and Connectivity – to help one better understand themselves as a leader\, the challenges one faces\, and how to bring stakeholders together to achieve cohesive action. \nModule One: Meta-Leadership: Complexity & The Arcs of Time \nContent: \nCOVID-19 is an example of a complex problem. Complexity requires leaders to view problems expansively. By doing so\, they grasp the full scope and scale of what face and they develop solutions that fit the enormity of the situations. The Meta-Leadership model builds from complex problem solving\, challenging the leader to think and practice broadly. The Arcs of Time guides leaders through the phases of the COVID-19 event so they can anticipate what is likely to come next and strategically prepare themselves and their systems to meet the demands. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nGain an appreciation for the dynamics of complex\, adaptive systems as they relate to leadership challenges.\nUnderstand the three dimensions of meta-leadership as frames for understanding and dealing with complexity.\nIdentify the characteristics of an Arc of Time: the COVID-19 event will traverse multiple Arcs until India achieves a “Next Normal.”\n\nAudience \nThe primary audience for this event is mid- to upper-level management in: \n\nLaw Enforcement\nFire\, Rescue\, and EMS\nHospitals\nPublic Health\nEmergency Management\n\n**Due to space constraints\, this event is by invitation only.**
